Welcome to My New Home!

Home Sweet Home - My new place on the Internet

Hey! I migrated my website off my old home of Notion with Super running the front end of things, and onto Ghost.org, which I have discovered through this great post by Molly White.

Why move?

Well, the reason behind the move was pretty straightforward. I migrated my note taking off of Notion after they started baking AI into everything. AI in my notes does not provide any value to me at this time (especially since I write notes like a stark raving madman), there was no Linux support, and so I wanted to try a different service. I eventually settled on Obsidian.md. After a fairly lengthy migration process, the only thing that remained on Notion was this website. So, I was looking for an alternative so I would not have this dependency sitting around.

The second reason I was looking to leave Notion was because the front end, Super started getting buggy and slow. Posting a page would take 2-3 minutes to be public. It would also take 2-3 minutes for Super to see changes I made in Notion, I had frequent authentication issues if I didn't use a private window (Either Privacy Badger or uBlock Origin was breaking things, not sure which), and finally the idea that the pages were so "live" that any real-time edits I made to a page, even accidentally would propagate through the rest of stack and go public weather or not I intended it to.

Why Ghost?

I settled on Ghost as mentioned earlier due to a few factors:

  1. They are cheaper than Super by about $5/mo.
  2. I no longer have any dependency on Notion.
  3. Ghost is a nonprofit, meaning that I don't have to worry (as much) about the org selling out or cashing in on a fad.
  4. RSS Support!
  5. The site tools are actually super convenient and straightforward to use.
  6. I have the option to self-host in the future if I desire.

Otherwise, there are some other useful features I could use if I decided I wanted to monetize this more, and it supports newsletters if people are into that. I want to be very clear. I have no interest in a paywall right now, and am not planning on putting any up at this time. My Ko-Fi account will be linked at the bottom of the page if anyone is feeling generous, but this website remains free and open to the internet. Otherwise, I hope this platform can be a stable place for me to continue creating content into the future! Thanks for reading!
